The legendary Old Winter Palace Hotel was built in 1886 in a true British Colonial style. It was also on the notice board at Winter Palace Howard Carter first announced the discovery of the tomb of TutAnchAmon. The hotel soon became famous for its New Year Eve celebrations with its masked and costumed balls. Many Crown Princes and Princesses came from Europe, while Oriental Royal Families made the Winter Palace their preferred place of residence. Luxor with Winter Palace where known for its dry climate, and the winter months here became "A Palace away from Home-Palace".
There are 117 rooms, 7 suites and one presidential suite in Victorian period style - facing either the Nile or the beautiful and large tropical garden of Winter Palace. Sit in the Royal Bar with its library of old books, have a romantic candlelight dinner at the "1886" restaurant. See the sun rise over the tropical garden, and then from the hotels Nile terrace witness ancient Waset (Luxor's original name) while the Atum sun sets large and red over the west bank and send its last rays over a magical Nile & hotel palace.
